Job Overview – Fund Controller (Private Equity):
Compensation: $175,000 – $200,000/year + bonus
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Our client is hiring a Fund Controller (Private Equity) in New York, NY to oversee fund accounting, investor reporting, and operations for a portfolio of closed-end funds. This in-office leadership role includes managing third-party administrators, mentoring accounting staff, and partnering with investment teams on capital activity and fund performance. Ideal for a CPA with Investran expertise and deep experience in private equity structures, LPAs, and treasury management.
Responsibilities as the Fund Controller (Private Equity):
- Fund Operations: Oversee fund accounting, investor reporting, performance analysis, tax compliance, and regulatory filings.
- Administrator & Staff Oversight: Manage third-party administrators and mentor Fund Accountants on reporting, journal entries, and waterfall modeling.
- Capital Activity: Review capital calls, distributions, investor notices, and sources and uses reports for accuracy and consistency.
- Audit & Compliance: Lead external audits and ensure alignment with LPA terms and partnership structures.
- Deal & Liquidity Support: Partner with investment teams on transactions while managing liquidity, credit facilities, and treasury operations.
- Tax Coordination: Work with tax advisors to ensure timely, accurate fund tax filings and related deliverables.
Qualifications for the Fund Controller (Private Equity):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Licensure: CPA required.
- Experience: 7-12 years of progressive public/private accounting experience, preferably with a focus on private equity or closed-end fund structures.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Investran is required, along with strong Excel skills and experience using fund-level systems and reporting tools.
- Skills & Attributes: Leadership-oriented, detail-focused, and solutions-driven with the ability to manage multiple deliverables and mentor junior staff.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of private equity fund mechanics, investor reporting, capital calls/distributions, and audit processes.
