Job Overview – Financial Controller
Compensation: $100,000 – $160,000/year + bonus
Location: Cook County, IL
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Financial Controller in Cook County, IL for our client, supporting construction accounting, financial reporting, job costing, payroll, cash flow management, and day-to-day accounting operations. This hands-on leadership role will oversee the accounting function while partnering with executive leadership to support financial performance, operational efficiency, and business growth. The ideal candidate will bring experience with percentage-of-completion accounting, work-in-progress reporting, and financial management within a project-based environment.
Responsibilities as the Financial Controller:
- Financial Reporting: Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while preparing accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Construction Accounting: Manage job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and percent-of-completion accounting across multiple projects and service lines.
- Payroll Management: Oversee payroll processing, labor reporting, and compliance requirements for both union and non-union workforces.
- Cash Flow & Forecasting: Monitor cash flow, liquidity, budgeting, and forecasting activities to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Accounting Operations: Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing activities, and related accounting processes to ensure operational efficiency.
- Financial Analysis: Perform variance analysis, cost analysis, and performance reporting while identifying opportunities to improve profitability and financial controls.
Qualifications for the Financial Controller:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is required, CPA designation is preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of accounting and finance experience with a strong focus on construction accounting, job costing, and financial reporting is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of percent-of-completion accounting, work-in-progress reporting, labor compliance, and GAAP principles is required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and accounting or ERP systems is required.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in a hands-on, growth-oriented environment is required.
