Job Overview – Financial Controller (Retail):
Take on a key role with our client as a Financial Controller (Retail) in New York, NY. In this in-office position, you will manage all aspects of financial reporting, payroll, and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance across the organization. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will oversee monthly closings, prepare financial statements, and maintain seamless integration of financial systems to support business objectives.

Compensation: $150,000 – $175,000/year + bonus
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)

Responsibilities as the Financial Controller (Retail):

  • Cash Management: Record intercompany cash transfers, factor advances, and other cash receipts while ensuring seamless integration between ERP and financial software.
  • Reconciliations: Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, factor reconciliations, and ensure all intercompany accounts are balanced.
  • Payroll Oversight: Enter and review payroll data for accuracy, analyze payroll info by company and department, and manage deductions for medical, 401k, and other benefits.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements for operating divisions, twice-yearly audit packages, and reports for annual factor field audits.
  • General Ledger Management: Post G/L journal entries, close monthly ledgers, and maintain accurate financial records across divisions.
  • Compliance and Audits: Support annual audits, ensure adherence to accounting standards, and prepare comprehensive reports for external review.

Qualifications for the Financial Controller (Retail):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required (CPA preferred).
  • Experience: 8-12 years in accounting or finance, with a mix of public and private experience (strong background in apparel, manufacturing, retail, or clothing licensing preferred).
  • Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, exceptional organizational and time management skills, and a detail-oriented approach to tasks.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in various financial software packages, with expertise in general ledger management and payroll systems.
  • Attributes: Analytical and adaptable, with a strong understanding of business KPIs, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to excellence.
