Job Overview – Family Office Controller:
Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000/year + bonus
Location: Miami, FL
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Family Office Controller in Miami, FL for our client, an opportunity supporting management company accounting, partnership and waterfall structures, portfolio reporting oversight, and financial operations within a lean family office. This hybrid role owns the close, strengthens controls and dashboards, partners with third-party administrators, and works closely with the CFO to deliver accurate, decision-ready reporting using advanced Excel and modern accounting systems.
Responsibilities as the Family Office Controller:
- Management Company Accounting: Own management company accounting, including expenses, reimbursements, vendors, and monthly close, while delivering clear operating expense and budget reporting.
- Controls & Dashboards: Build internal controls, audit-ready documentation, standardized workflows, and dashboards that provide transparent, actionable insights to family stakeholders.
- Portfolio Reporting: Serve as the primary liaison to third-party reporting providers, reviewing portfolio financials, valuations, performance metrics, and partner capital reporting for accuracy and consistency.
- Partnership Accounting & Waterfalls: Develop profit-share models, partnership structures, and waterfall calculations while overseeing capital calls, distributions, allocations, and partner capital accounts.
- Improvement & Support: Drive automation and system improvements, establish best practices, and partner with the CFO on financial analysis, scenario modeling, and decision support.
Qualifications for the Family Office Controller:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA strongly preferred).
- Experience: 8-15 years of experience in family office, investment management, or fund accounting, with partnership and carried interest exposure.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency with experience using NetSuite or comparable ERPs and evaluating new accounting and reporting technologies.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of partnership accounting, waterfall models, capital activity, portfolio reporting, and coordination with external administrators, auditors, and tax advisors.
- Skills & Attributes: Detail-oriented, analytical leader with strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced family office environment.
