Job Overview – Director of Fund Tax
Compensation: $225,000 – $250,000/year + bonus
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Director of Fund Tax in New York, NY for our client, supporting tax strategy, transaction structuring, fund tax planning, and tax compliance oversight within a leading private equity investment environment. This leadership role will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership, investment professionals, and external advisors, driving tax-efficient structuring and execution across a highly active investment platform. The ideal candidate will bring deep private equity fund tax expertise, strong transaction tax experience, and the ability to operate as a strategic business partner within a fast-paced investment organization.
Responsibilities as the Director of Fund Tax:
- Tax Strategy & Structuring: Develop and implement tax-efficient structures for acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, and investment transactions across private equity funds and related entities.
- Transaction Tax Advisory: Lead tax due diligence efforts, evaluate transaction risks and opportunities, and provide tax guidance throughout deal execution and closing processes.
- Fund Tax Planning: Advise on partnership taxation, fund structuring, investor considerations, and tax implications related to complex investment activities.
- Compliance Oversight: Oversee federal, state, and international tax compliance processes, investor reporting requirements, and partnership tax allocations while managing external service providers and internal resources.
- Executive Partnership: Serve as a trusted tax advisor to senior leadership, investment teams, finance professionals, and legal stakeholders on strategic tax matters.
- Leadership & Team Development: Manage and mentor tax professionals while fostering collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous process improvement.
Qualifications for the Director of Fund Tax:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field is required. CPA designation is required.
- Advanced Credentials: JD, LL.M. in Taxation, or Master’s in Taxation is required.
- Experience: 15+ years of tax experience, including leadership experience within private equity, alternative investments, or public accounting environments, is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of partnership taxation, fund structures, transaction tax, mergers and acquisitions, and investment-related tax matters is required.
- Technical Skills: Strong experience with tax planning, tax compliance oversight, transaction analysis, tax due diligence, and investor reporting is required.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, communication, business acumen, and stakeholder management skills are required.
