Job Overview – Director of Finance (Education):
Take on a key leadership role with our client as the Director of Finance (Education) in New York, NY. In this in-office position, you will oversee the school’s financial operations, including compliance, budgeting, reporting, and long-term planning. Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF), you will drive financial stability, manage risk, and lead strategic initiatives that support the school’s mission and goals.
Compensation: $150,000 – $185,000/year
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Responsibilities as the Director of Finance (Education):
- Financial Operations: Manage banking, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and employee benefits to ensure compliance and stability.
- Cash Management: Oversee cash flow projections, approve disbursements, and monitor brokerage accounts for securities donations.
- Budgeting and Planning: Lead budgeting, financial planning, and reporting for school leadership and the Board of Trustees.
- Audit and Compliance: Supervise annual audits, prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, and ensure tax compliance.
- Capital and Endowment Management: Manage capital project funding, endowment records, and support the Investment Committee.
- Employee Benefits and Financial Aid: Collaborate with HR on benefits plans and oversee financial aid allocations to align with the school’s mission.
Qualifications for the Director of Finance (Education):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Management required (MBA preferred).
- Experience: 10-15 years of progressively responsible finance or accounting experience, ideally within the nonprofit sector, with proven supervisory and leadership skills.
- Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required (familiarity with Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred).
- Attributes: Self-motivated, service-oriented, and collaborative, with a genuine interest in education and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
