Job Overview – Controller (Retail & Ecommerce)
Compensation: $125,000 – $185,000/year + bonus
Location: Raleigh, NC
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Controller (Retail & Ecommerce) in Raleigh, NC for our client, supporting financial reporting, inventory accounting, and operational finance within a multi-channel retail and ecommerce business. In this role, you will lead the monthly close process, maintain general ledger accuracy, and oversee revenue recognition across direct-to-consumer, ecommerce, and retail channels. You will partner with the CFO and cross-functional teams to strengthen accounting processes, improve financial visibility, and support strategic decision making using ERP systems and advanced Excel.
Responsibilities as the Controller (Retail & Ecommerce):
- Financial Close & Reporting: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process while ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Revenue & Channel Accounting: Oversee revenue recognition and financial reporting across direct-to-consumer, ecommerce marketplaces, and retail distribution partners.
- Inventory & Cost Accounting: Manage inventory accounting, cost of goods sold analysis, and gross margin reporting across manufacturers, warehouses, and third-party logistics providers.
- Receivables & Trade Accounting: Oversee accounts receivable reconciliation, retailer deductions, chargebacks, and trade spend while partnering with Sales and Operations to resolve discrepancies.
- Process Improvement & Systems: Strengthen accounting controls while supporting ERP enhancements, automation initiatives, and improvements to financial reporting processes.
Qualifications for the Controller (Retail & Ecommerce):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required, and CPA certification is preferred.
- Experience: 7+ years of accounting experience with exposure to inventory accounting, financial reporting, or operational finance within consumer products, manufacturing, retail, or other product-based environments.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, revenue recognition principles, and accounting practices related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and multi-channel retail operations.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling, and experience working with ERP systems is preferred.
- Skills & Attributes: Demonstrates strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to operate with high ownership while communicating financial insights clearly to leadership teams.
