Job Overview – Chief Accounting Officer (Insurance)
Compensation: $370,000 – $450,000/year + bonus
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Chief Accounting Officer (Insurance) in Philadelphia, PA for our client, leading enterprise accounting, statutory reporting, and corporate tax strategy across a complex insurance organization. In this hybrid executive role, you will oversee GAAP and STAT financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and tax planning while partnering with executive leadership to drive financial strategy, strengthen internal controls, and modernize accounting operations through technology and automation.
Responsibilities as the Chief Accounting Officer:
- Enterprise Accounting & Reporting: Lead GAAP, statutory, regulatory, and tax reporting across all entities, ensuring accurate and compliant financial statements.
- Technical Accounting & Controls: Serve as the subject matter expert on GAAP and statutory accounting while overseeing the enterprise control environment.
- Audit & Regulatory Oversight: Manage external audits and maintain relationships with regulators and rating agencies.
- Corporate Tax Strategy: Direct tax planning, compliance, and reporting, including support for M&A and corporate structuring.
- Executive Leadership & Talent Development: Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives while building and developing high-performing accounting teams.
Qualifications for the Chief Accounting Officer:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required (MBA or MS in Taxation strongly preferred).
- Certification: CPA required.
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of accounting leadership experience within the insurance industry, including oversight of GAAP, statutory accounting, and tax functions.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep expertise in FASB, GAAP, statutory accounting principles, insurance regulatory frameworks, and corporate tax strategy.
- Leadership Expertise: Proven ability to build, mentor, and lead large accounting and tax teams while driving operational excellence and process innovation.
- Technical & Strategic Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience modernizing accounting functions through automation and advanced financial systems.
- Executive Presence: Demonstrated success advising senior leadership, engaging regulators and auditors, and influencing enterprise-wide financial strategy.
