Job Overview – Assistant Controller (SEC Reporting)
Compensation: $130,000 – $175,000/year + bonus
Location: Stamford, CT
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring an Assistant Controller (SEC Reporting) in Stamford, CT for our client, supporting SEC reporting, accounting operations, financial close, internal controls, and process improvement within a public company environment. This role will oversee key reporting and accounting activities while helping strengthen scalable finance processes and reporting infrastructure. The position also offers exposure to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, automation, and emerging AI tools.
Responsibilities as the Assistant Controller (SEC Reporting):
- SEC Reporting: Lead quarterly and annual SEC reporting, financial disclosures, and supporting financial documentation.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and related accounting activities.
- Financial Close: Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Internal Controls: Maintain accounting policies, documentation, internal controls, and SOX compliance processes.
- Financial Systems: Improve accounting and reporting workflows through financial systems, automation, and process enhancements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams and external resources to support reporting accuracy, data quality, and accounting operations.
Qualifications for the Assistant Controller (SEC Reporting):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, CPA certification is preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including SEC reporting, public company accounting, or public accounting experience, is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, financial close, SOX compliance, and internal controls is required.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting or ERP systems experience is required, with automation experience preferred.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong analytical, organizational, communication, problem-solving, attention to detail, and cross-functional collaboration skills are required.
