Job Overview – Assistant Controller (Real Estate):
Advance your career with our client as an Assistant Controller in New York, NY, overseeing Real Estate Fund Accounting for open and closed-ended funds. Collaborate with global teams and partners to ensure operational and reporting excellence.
Compensation: $155,000 – $175,000/year + bonus
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Responsibilities as the Assistant Controller (Real Estate):
- Fund Operations & Administration: Drive the operational success of open-ended real estate funds, managing day-to-day fund activities and processes.
- Service Provider Oversight: Lead key relationships with global service providers, including fund administrators, valuation providers, and public accounting firms.
- Transaction Management: Collaborate with investment, finance, and external teams to process capital calls, distributions, wire transfers, and investor communications.
- Property-Level Support: Work closely with property managers, operating partners, joint venture executives, and lenders to ensure seamless property-level accounting.
- Valuation Review: Assist in reviewing quarterly valuation analyses and contribute to the valuation committee process.
- Financial Statement Review: Oversee the preparation and review of quarterly GAAP financial statements and Limited Partner reports by the fund administrator.
Qualifications for the Assistant Controller (Real Estate):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 6-8 years of experience in Real Estate Fund Accounting, ideally with exposure to both open-ended and closed-ended funds.
- Expertise: Knowledge of operating and non-operating models, equity pickup models, and fair value accounting is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in implementing system enhancements and automation to streamline processes.
- Background: Combination of public and private accounting experience or strong private accounting experience in real estate funds.
- Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
