Job Overview – Assistant Controller (Financial Services):
Compensation: $180,000 – $220,000/year + bonus
Location: Bergen County, NJ
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring an Assistant Controller (Financial Services) in Bergen County, NJ for our client. In this hybrid role, you will oversee financial reporting, SEC filings, internal controls, and technical accounting while supporting IPO readiness. You will lead the close process, manage accounting operations, and partner with FP&A, Tax, Legal, and auditors. This role is ideal for an accounting leader with deep financial services experience and strong SEC reporting, GAAP, and SOX expertise.
Responsibilities as the Assistant Controller:
- Financial Reporting & SEC Filings: Oversee GAAP financial statements and manage the preparation of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, and all related disclosures to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Internal Controls & SOX Compliance: Design, implement, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting while supporting SOX readiness and audit requirements.
- IPO Readiness: Partner with senior leadership to prepare the organization for public company reporting, including drafting disclosures and supporting investor and regulatory presentations.
- Accounting Operations & Management: Oversee daily accounting functions and ensure timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with a focus on efficiency and control improvements.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and mentor accounting staff and work closely with FP&A, Tax, Legal, and other departments to align financial reporting with organizational objectives.
Qualifications for the Assistant Controller:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Certification: CPA required.
- Experience: 8-14 years of progressive accounting experience in financial services with strong public company or pre-IPO experience and expertise in SEC reporting and technical accounting.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, or NetSuite, with strong SEC filing experience and solid knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and internal controls.
- Industry Knowledge: Background in banking, lending, asset management, or other financial services sectors preferred.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and improve processes in a fast-paced environment.
