Job Overview – Accounting Analyst (Hybrid):

Collaborate with business units to support month-end close, accounts payable, and compliance reporting while gaining hands-on experience in residential mortgage loans, mortgage-backed securities, and real estate-related investments.

Compensation: $70,000 – $100,000/year + bonus
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)

Responsibilities as the Accounting Analyst:

  • Financial Close & Reconciliation: Perform month-end close reconciliations and ensure timely, accurate recording of transactions.
  • Accounts Payable & Journal Entries: Assist with AvidXchange accounts payable processing, prepare and post journal entries, and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare Excel reports to support financial statement footnotes, MD&A, and ensure accuracy in calculations.
  • Compliance & Internal Controls: Document monthly and quarterly control processes and support SOX compliance testing.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Assist in the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly financial statements, ensuring alignment with SEC (10-K, 10-Q) requirements.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Middle Office, Senior Finance professionals, external auditors, news wire services, SEC teams, and tax professionals to streamline reporting and compliance.

Qualifications for the Accounting Analyst:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA or CPA track highly preferred).
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in public accounting, financial reporting, or corporate accounting, preferably with exposure to REITs, real estate investments, or SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q).
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and financial reporting systems, with experience in Workiva, BlackRock Aladdin, or Clearwater Analytics as a plus.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of fixed income, mortgage-backed securities, and real estate investments preferred.
  • Skills & Attributes: Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Expertise: Familiarity with SOX compliance, financial controls, and SEC reporting requirements.
