Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with the Investor Communications Team to deliver investor data to outside tax preparers for K-1 and 1099-DIV / 1042-S preparation
  • Liaise with Fund Accounting to ensure complete, accurate tax workpaper packages are provided to the outside tax firms that prepare tax returns and K-1s
  • Coordinate with the rest of the Tax Department to divide and conquer tax compliance for funds and related entities of the Firm. This includes the review of workpapers and tax returns for (1) privately held investment partnerships and funds, (2) various subsidiaries of these funds including numerous blocker corporations, (3) one publicly traded and two privately held Business Development Company (“BDC”) / RIC, (4) general partner entities and (5) management companies. These entities are a mix of US and foreign based.
  • Work with external auditors, senior Tax team members, Fund Accounting and Strategic Accounting & Finance to draft ASC 740 memos, tax provisions and tax footnotes for entities that undergo financial statement audits
  • Create a tax return summary for each taxpayer that is ultimately sent to Executive Management for their review and approval
  • Draft responses to investor questions that come in via the Investor Communications or Business Development Teams
  • Compute quarterly estimated taxable income for investors funds and their general partners
  • Prepare C corporations’ quarterly tax calculations and estimated payment recommendations; facilitate filings and payments once approved by Executive Management
  • Contact portfolio companies for current year Schedule K-1s or 1099-DIVs / 1042-S; review documents received and track tax basis of the investment
  • Track Global Intermediary Identification Number (‘GIINs’) for foreign entities and work with external advisor, Investor Communications and senior Tax Team members to confirm scope of FATCA / CRS filings and ensure all annual requirements are completed
  • Collaborate with Direct Lending Teams to perform initial tax review of memos regarding proposed equity investments and dispositions
  • Analyze and resolve tax notices from various jurisdictions; recommend action plan and / or draft responses for manager review
  • Prepare W-9s / W-8s for new entities; help maintain internal database of valid tax forms

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA certification required
  • Five to seven years of proven tax experience in the financial services industry
  • Strong existing tax knowledge of corporate and partnership taxation, US based and non-US based investment vehicles
  • A basic understanding of the tax issues associated with debt investments is a plus
