Job Overview – Payroll Manager
Compensation: $120,000–$150,000/year + bonus
Location: Greater Philadelphia Area, PA
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Payroll Manager in the Greater Philadelphia area for our client, overseeing payroll operations, compliance, reporting, systems, and process improvement within an established organization. This role will manage payroll processing and related accounting activities including international employees, maintain accurate payroll records and controls, support payroll technology, and collaborate with HR and finance teams on operational initiatives. The ideal candidate has 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including payroll leadership and experience supporting complex payroll operations.
Responsibilities as the Payroll Manager:
- Payroll Operations: Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing while managing earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, and payroll funding.
- Team Leadership: Manage, develop, and coach payroll administrators while establishing priorities and maintaining consistent payroll execution.
- Systems & Integration: Partner across accounting and human resources to maintain payroll systems, improve automation, and optimize integrations between HR and payroll platforms.
- Payroll Compliance: Maintain compliance with applicable payroll tax requirements, internal controls, audit standards, and payroll policies across supported jurisdictions.
- Reporting & Reconciliation: Oversee payroll accounting, general ledger reporting, tax reporting, reconciliations, year-end processing, and recurring payroll audits.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with payroll providers while driving process improvements and resolving payroll or tax-related issues.
Qualifications for the Payroll Manager:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources, or a related field is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of progressive payroll experience is required, including payroll leadership and experience supporting complex payroll operations.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience with multi-state and global payroll operations is required, including hands-on experience supporting global payroll (including US, U and/or Europe), payroll taxation, controls, reconciliations, and year-end processing.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with Workday HCM and ADP Workforce Now is required, along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and lookup functions.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, organization, attention to detail, communication, discretion, problem-solving, process improvement, and ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines are required.
