Job Overview – Director of Property Accounting
Compensation: $150,000 – $175,000/year + Bonus
Location: Boston, MA
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Director of Property Accounting in Boston, MA for our client, supporting property accounting, financial reporting, portfolio oversight, and team leadership within a real estate environment. This role will oversee accounting activities across a portfolio of properties while partnering with investment and operational teams on reporting, budgeting, cash management, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate brings significant real estate, REIT, or fund accounting experience with strong leadership and GAAP knowledge.
Responsibilities as the Director of Property Accounting:
- Portfolio Accounting: Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate investments.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor accounting professionals while reviewing work, establishing priorities, and supporting team development.
- Financial Planning: Review property budgets, forecasts, operating expenses, and financial results in partnership with internal stakeholders.
- Cash & Debt Management: Oversee property-level cash activity, distributions, capital requirements, loan reporting, and debt covenant compliance.
- Audit & Compliance: Coordinate financial statement audits, tax reporting support, REIT compliance activities, and related external reporting requirements.
- Process Improvement: Strengthen accounting controls, systems, and workflows while leading initiatives to improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Qualifications for the Director of Property Accounting:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- Certification: CPA designation is preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with prior management experience overseeing accounting teams is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Commercial real estate accounting experience is preferred, with REIT or real estate fund accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel and accounting systems proficiency are required, with experience using real estate accounting, planning, or financial reporting platforms preferred.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, analytical, communication, relationship management, and organizational skills are required.
