Compensation: $110,000 – $120,000/year

Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Payroll Manager in New York, NY for our client, supporting payroll operations, payroll accounting, and financial reporting. This role oversees end-to-end payroll processing while partnering with human resources and finance to ensure accurate payroll administration, general ledger reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has extensive payroll experience, strong accounting knowledge, and experience processing union payroll within ADP Workforce Now.
Responsibilities as the Payroll Manager:
- Payroll Administration: Manage multi-state payroll processing for a diverse employee population while ensuring timely and accurate payroll operations.
- Payroll Accounting: Prepare payroll-related journal entries, reconcile payroll accounts, support month-end close activities, and maintain payroll-related financial records.
- General Ledger Management: Maintain payroll cost center allocations, review general ledger coding, prepare payroll reporting, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, union agreements, and year-end payroll reporting requirements.
- Benefits & Reconciliations: Support benefits accounting, payroll accruals, account reconciliations, and audit preparation while partnering with finance and human resources.
- Systems & Process Improvement: Maintain payroll system configurations, identify process improvements, and support payroll and accounting system enhancements.
Qualifications for the Payroll Manager:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field is required.
- Certification: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.
- Experience: 7+ years of payroll experience, including payroll accounting or general ledger responsibilities, is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience processing union payroll, multi-state payroll, payroll tax compliance, and payroll accounting is required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Excel, and payroll or accounting systems is required. Experience preparing payroll-related journal entries is required.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining payroll accuracy are required.
