Job Overview – Senior Tax Accountant
Compensation: $100,000 – $120,000/year
Location: Bergen County, NJ
Schedule: Hybrid (3–4 Days In Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Senior Tax Accountant in Bergen County, NJ for our client, supporting tax compliance, tax planning, and advisory services within a growing public accounting environment. This role will prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, conduct tax research, collaborate directly with clients, and support a variety of tax planning and consulting engagements. The ideal candidate will bring public accounting tax experience, strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication and client relationship skills, and the ability to manage multiple engagements in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities as the Senior Tax Accountant:
- Tax Preparation: Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and other entities while ensuring accuracy and timely filing.
- Client Advisory: Communicate directly with clients to gather information, answer tax-related questions, resolve notices, and provide ongoing support throughout the year.
- Tax Compliance: Review financial records, reconcile tax-related accounts, prepare supporting workpapers, and assist with estimated payments, extensions, and other compliance requirements.
- Research & Planning: Perform tax research, support tax planning initiatives, and assist with resolving complex tax matters and regulatory inquiries.
- Financial Review: Analyze financial statements, general ledgers, and accounting records to ensure tax readiness and accurate reporting.
- Team Collaboration: Partner with firm leadership and accounting staff on client engagements while mentoring junior team members and supporting process improvements.
Qualifications for the Senior Tax Accountant:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of public accounting tax experience preparing a variety of business and individual tax returns is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience supporting closely held businesses, investment entities, or high-net-worth individuals is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Experience with tax preparation software, Microsoft Excel, and accounting systems is required.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong analytical, communication, client service, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines are required. Spanish language proficiency is preferred.
