Atlantic Group is hiring a Controller (Accounting & Finance) in New York, NY for our client, leading GAAP-based financial reporting, nonprofit fund accounting, budgeting, payroll, and audit coordination within a mission-driven organization. In this in-office role, you will oversee month-end close, manage restricted and unrestricted funds, prepare financial statements and IRS Form 990 support, and enhance accounting systems including QuickBooks Online, Stripe, and Raiser’s Edge to strengthen internal controls and financial operations.

Responsibilities as the Controller (Accounting & Finance):

  • Financial Reporting & GAAP Oversight: Lead all accounting operations and financial reporting to ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Close Process & Cash Flow Management: Oversee month-end and year-end close, maintain reconciliations and schedules, and prepare rolling cash flow forecasts to support liquidity planning.
  • Fund Accounting & Budget Management: Manage restricted and unrestricted funds, oversee budgeting processes, and provide financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.
  • Audit, Tax & Compliance Coordination: Lead annual audit preparation, maintain audit-ready documentation, and support required tax and regulatory filings.
  • Internal Controls, Systems & Team Leadership: Strengthen internal controls, optimize accounting systems and processes, and supervise accounting staff and payroll operations.

Qualifications for the Controller (Accounting & Finance):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • Certification: CPA required.
  • Experience: 8+ years of nonprofit accounting experience, including fund accounting and financial reporting, with at least 3 years of team leadership experience.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, FASB pronouncements, fund accounting, audit best practices, and state and federal nonprofit regulations.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, Stripe, Zoho Expense, and financial reporting systems required, with Raiser’s Edge or similar nonprofit CRM preferred.
  • Skills & Attributes: Strategic and detail-oriented finance leader with strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while partnering cross-functionally.
