Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)

Atlantic Group is hiring a Controller in Philadelphia, PA for our client. In this in-office role, you will oversee the firm’s accounting operations, including AP/AR, legal billing, trust accounting (IOLTA), and financial reporting. You will manage day-to-day accounting using QuickBooks and Clio, ensure strict compliance with state bar and GAAP requirements, and provide clear financial insights to firm leadership. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who values accuracy, compliance, and operational ownership.

Responsibilities as the Controller:

  • Trust Accounting & IOLTA Compliance: Manage and reconcile all client trust account activity in full compliance with IOLTA requirements and state bar regulations.
  • Accounts Payable, Receivable & Legal Billing: Oversee vendor payments, client invoicing, collections, retainers, and legal billing to ensure accurate and timely cash flow.
  • Bank & Credit Card Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations for operating accounts, trust accounts, and credit cards, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, cash flow reports, and variance analyses to support firm leadership.
  • Systems & Controls: Maintain the general ledger, support audits and tax filings, and ensure accurate use of accounting and practice management systems including QuickBooks and Clio.

Qualifications for the Controller:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, with prior law firm or legal services accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of legal billing, trust accounting (IOLTA), GAAP, and law firm financial compliance requirements.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with QuickBooks required and experience using Clio or similar legal practice management software preferred.
  • Skills & Attributes: Highly detail-oriented professional with strong integrity, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to clearly communicate financial information to attorneys and non-financial staff.
