Job Overview – Controller & Operations Manager (Remote):
Compensation: $80,000 – $110,000/year + bonus
Location: Remote (Must reside in the New York City or tri-state area)
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Remote)
Drive finance and operations strategy as a Controller & Operations Manager (Remote) with our client, based in New York, NY. This fully remote role requires candidates to reside in the New York City or tri-state area and oversee accounting, billing, payroll, HR, and vendor operations. You’ll work closely with third-party partners to ensure GAAP compliance, tax reporting, and process efficiency. Experience in multi-unit or consumer-facing businesses is preferred, along with strong technical skills in accounting systems and financial reporting.
Responsibilities as the Controller & Operations Manager:
- Accounting & Reporting: Partner with third-party accountants to oversee billing, AP/AR, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
- Compliance & Audit: Maintain GAAP compliance, manage audit prep, and resolve complex accounting and regulatory issues.
- Controls & Improvements: Develop internal controls, refine policies, and implement process enhancements for accuracy and efficiency.
- Payroll & HR: Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and basic HR functions in coordination with external providers.
- Operations & Administration: Manage business licenses, brand registrations, vendor relationships, and general office operations.
- Tax & Stakeholder Coordination: Ensure timely tax filings and serve as liaison between leadership, auditors, and service vendors.
Qualifications for the Controller & Operations Manager:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required (MBA strongly preferred).
- Experience: 10+ years in finance and accounting, including 3+ years in a senior or controller-level role, with experience in multi-unit or consumer-facing businesses preferred.
- Certification: CPA preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in GAAP, financial systems, payroll platforms, and accounting software, with proven experience leading system implementations and managing vendor relationships.
- Skills & Attributes: Highly organized and analytical, with strong communication skills and the ability to lead projects, collaborate cross-functionally, and present to stakeholders.
