Job Overview – Assistant Controller (Private Equity Accounting):
Compensation: $140,000 – $160,000/year + bonus
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Our client is hiring an Assistant Controller (Private Equity Accounting) in New York, NY (Hybrid). In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll oversee fund and corporate accounting, GAAP reporting, capital activity, investor communications, and audit coordination across private equity partnerships. Ideal for CPAs with experience in private equity or real estate funds and deep expertise in fund operations and financial reporting.
Responsibilities as the Assistant Controller:
- Fund & Investor Reporting: Oversee capital calls, distributions, allocations, and quarterly investor reports; manage relationships with fund administrators.
- Financial Statements & GAAP Compliance: Prepare and review firm and partnership financials in accordance with GAAP, ensuring timely delivery to stakeholders.
- Valuation & Audit Coordination: Support investment valuations, participate in committee reviews, and lead audit processes with third-party firms.
- Tax Oversight: Partner with external tax advisors on planning, compliance, and return preparation, including Schedules K-1.
- Cash Flow & Budgeting: Monitor cash activity, assist in budgeting, and support strategic financial planning across the organization.
Qualifications for the Assistant Controller:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Certification: CPA required.
- Experience: 5-7 years of accounting experience in private equity, real estate private equity, or a combination of public and private roles with direct exposure to fund structures.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with experience in fund accounting systems such as Investran, eFront, or similar platforms preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, partnership accounting, and private equity fund structures.
- Skills & Attributes: Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly organized, with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
