Job Overview – Property Accountant (Affordable Housing):
Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000/year
Location: Queens, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Our client is hiring a Property Accountant (Affordable Housing) in Queens, NY (Hybrid), to lead subsidy billing, financial reporting, and compliance for a portfolio of affordable housing properties. In this role, you will manage subsidy billing (HAP, DRIE/SCRIE, Section 8, and NYC programs), perform reconciliations, and prepare financial reports and dashboards to track property performance. Proficiency in Yardi and extensive knowledge of affordable housing subsidies are required.
Responsibilities as the Property Accountant:
- Billing & Reconciliation: Manage billing, collections, and reconciliations for affordable housing subsidies (HAP, DRIE/SCRIE, Section 8, NYC programs).
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly subsidy revenue reports, develop dashboards, and identify trends to improve processes.
- Bank Reconciliation: Perform accurate and timely bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies with agencies and funding sources.
- Certification & Compliance: Review tenant income certifications to ensure billing accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Collaboration & Support: Partner with property managers on documentation, reporting, and subsidy requirements.
- Budgeting & Financial Analysis: Contribute to monthly reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis for assigned properties.
Qualifications for the Property Accountant:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience in property management, with direct experience in affordable housing and subsidies (HAP, DRIE/SCRIE, Section 8) required.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Yardi and Microsoft Excel, with knowledge of accrual-based accounting and financial reporting.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving abilities, effective communicator, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
