Job Overview – Trust and Estate Accountant:
Step into the role of Trust and Estate Accountant with our client in Newburgh, NY. In this in-office position, you will oversee financial reporting, tax compliance, and estate administration for trusts and estates. By working closely with clients, legal teams, and internal departments, you will ensure adherence to fiduciary standards and estate tax requirements while maintaining precise financial management and reporting.
Compensation: $110,000 – $140,000/year + bonus
Location: Newburgh, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Responsibilities as the Trust and Estate Accountant:
- Fiduciary Accounting: Prepare and maintain financial records for trusts and estates, ensuring compliance with fiduciary standards and regulations.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041) and related filings, coordinating with tax professionals for accuracy and planning.
- Estate Administration: Track and reconcile estate accounts, prepare asset inventories, and manage estate-related financial activities.
- Financial Reporting: Generate accurate financial reports for trustees, beneficiaries, and legal counsel, presenting data in a clear and concise manner.
- Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance.
- Client Relations: Build strong relationships with clients, trustees, and attorneys, offering guidance on financial matters related to trusts and estates.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain detailed and accurate records of transactions, communications, and reports for trust and estate accounts.
Qualifications for the Trust and Estate Accountant:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Certification: CPA certification is mandatory.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in fiduciary accounting, trust and estate administration (experience preparing Form 1041 and other fiduciary tax filings preferred).
- Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), with knowledge of fiduciary accounting standards, estate tax regulations, and IRS guidelines.
