Job Overview – Safety Specialist
Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000/year + bonus
Location: Wilmington, DE
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Safety Specialist in Wilmington, DE for our client. This role supports workplace safety, OSHA compliance, safety training, incident prevention, and ongoing health and safety initiatives. The Safety Specialist will work closely with employees and leadership to promote a strong safety culture, identify potential risks, and support compliance with established safety policies and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has hands-on safety experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities as the Safety Specialist:
- Safety Compliance: Monitor daily operations to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, workplace safety procedures, and established HSE standards.
- Site Inspections: Conduct routine workplace inspections and safety audits, identify potential hazards, and coordinate corrective actions with operational leadership.
- Safety Training: Lead employee safety training, toolbox talks, meetings, and other initiatives designed to reinforce safe work practices.
- Incident Investigation: Participate in accident and incident investigations, document findings, identify contributing factors, and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Operational Partnership: Work closely with warehouse, terminal, and operations teams to address safety concerns and promote consistent compliance across the workplace.
- HSE Support: Maintain safety documentation, monitor corrective actions, support continuous improvement initiatives, and assist with broader health, safety, and environmental programs.
Qualifications for the Safety Specialist:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification: OSHA certifications are preferred, and the ability to obtain and maintain required industry credentials is required.
- Experience: 3+ years of workplace safety, HSE, industrial operations, maritime, warehouse, or related experience is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace hazard identification, safety inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action processes is required. Experience working with union labor or maritime operations is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn safety management and reporting systems is required.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in active industrial environments, collaborate with operations teams, maintain confidentiality, and accommodate occasional nights, weekends, or alternative hours as needed.
