Job Overview – Laboratory Animal Technician:
Become a vital member of our client’s team in Boston, MA, as a Laboratory Animal Technician. Your primary responsibility will be to provide daily husbandry care to research animals, ensuring their health and well-being. This role requires adherence to departmental standard operating procedures, state and federal regulations, and accrediting agency guidelines.
Location: Boston, MA
Compensation: $24/hour
Schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday
Responsibilities as the Laboratory Animal Technician:
- Animal Husbandry: Provide daily husbandry care to research animals, including clean sanitized caging material, fresh food and water, and environmental enrichment on a scheduled and as-needed basis.
- Health Monitoring: Monitor animal health and well-being in assigned areas and report signs of illness to the Supervisor immediately.
- Reporting and Documentation: Complete all required reporting documents and cage notification cards.
- Deficiency Reporting: Report all deficiencies immediately to the Supervisor.
- Animal Housing: House newly arriving animal colonies according to department standard operating procedures and ensure orders match the posted incoming animal log and assigned cage cards, reporting errors immediately to the Supervisor.
- Environmental Monitoring: Monitor environmental parameters of assigned holding rooms for temperature and humidity, recording all information on the room log, and report any deviations to the Supervisor immediately.
Qualifications for the Laboratory Animal Technician:
- Education: High School diploma or GED required.
- Certifications: Certification required in 1: Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician, and Certificate 2 preferred: Laboratory Animal Technician.
- Experience: 1-3 years of related work experience required.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work in a team, and excellent communication skills.
