Job Overview – Estimator (Commercial Construction):
Compensation: $100,000 – $130,000/year
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Take on a key role with our client as an Estimator (Commercial Construction) in Philadelphia, PA. In this position, you’ll lead preconstruction and estimation for high-end commercial projects, including public facilities, higher education, assisted living, and courthouses. You’ll prepare detailed cost estimates, evaluate subcontractor bids, and collaborate with project teams to ensure competitive proposals. Ideal candidates have experience in commercial framing, drywall, or general contracting and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities as the Estimator:
- Preconstruction & Estimating: Prepare accurate take-offs, labor and material costs, and detailed estimates across all project phases.
- Bid Management: Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor bids to ensure scope coverage and competitive pricing.
- Project & Risk Analysis: Review plans and specs to assess scope, identify risks, and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
- Budgeting & Cost Tracking: Build conceptual budgets, track historical data, and monitor pricing trends for accuracy.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate with project managers, vendors, and design teams to align on goals and clarify expectations.
Qualifications for the Estimator:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: 2-4 years of estimating experience in commercial construction, ideally in framing, drywall, or GC work, with preference for public and institutional projects.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and estimation tools such as On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, or Sage Estimating.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction documents, trade scopes, labor costs, and subcontractor coordination.
- Skills & Attributes: Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven with strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
