Job Overview – Associate General Counsel (Asset Management):
Compensation: $175,000 – $250,000/year base ($400,000 All-In)
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Our client is hiring an Associate General Counsel to join their Asset Management legal team in New York, NY (Hybrid). This senior role is ideal for attorneys with deep expertise in SEC and FINRA compliance, fiduciary standards, and wealth and asset management regulations. You’ll advise on regulatory matters, advisory initiatives, and private fund offerings, while supporting marketing review, client onboarding, and product development across a sophisticated wealth platform.
Responsibilities as the Associate General Counsel:
- Regulatory Advisory: Provide legal guidance on private wealth and asset management laws, including the Advisers Act, FINRA, ERISA, and related regulations.
- Client Lifecycle Support: Advise on account onboarding, documentation, and legal aspects of client maintenance and compliance.
- Regulatory Change Management: Lead implementation of legal and regulatory updates in coordination with compliance, risk, and operations.
- Fund & Program Development: Draft and review advisory agreements and fund documents for new product launches.
- Marketing Review: Approve marketing and client materials to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with advisors, PMs, and leadership to provide strategic, practical legal support across business functions.
Qualifications for the Associate General Counsel:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school is required.
- Licensure: Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.
- Experience: 8-15 years of legal experience in wealth or asset management, advising private wealth clients and SEC-registered investment advisers, gained in-house or at a leading law firm.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of SEC, FINRA, ERISA, and other regulatory frameworks governing investment advisory businesses and private wealth.
- Skills & Attributes: Self-motivated and analytical, with strong writing, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to manage priorities and advise senior stakeholders on complex legal issues.
