Join our client’s dynamic team in Philadelphia, PA, as an Assistant Vice President, Investment Accounting. This hybrid role involves leading all aspects of the strategic and operational functions within the Investment Accounting Department. Location: Philadelphia, PA
Compensation: $180,000 – $230,000/year + bonus
Schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (Hybrid)

Responsibilities as the Assistant Vice President, Investment Accounting:

  • Investment Accounting Policy: Ensure all GAAP, Statutory, and IFRS investment-related guidance is appropriately reflected in the accounting system, financial disclosures, and internal documentation.
  • Financial Analysis: Lead the review of monthly results by analyzing earned income, realized gains/losses, and balance sheet positions to provide management with detailed feedback.
  • Relationship Management: Act as lead relationship manager with external investment accounting providers to manage KPIs, reporting requirements, and process improvements.
  • New Investments: Assess the impact of new investments on accounting treatment, document such treatment in policy memos, and establish investment accounting policies.
  • Impairment Process: Manage the quarterly impairment process, propose recommendations to management based on analytical conclusions, and document these conclusions comprehensively.
  • Valuation Management: Oversee the valuation of the investment portfolio, ensure the identification of appropriate data sources, and enhance the overall valuation control environment.
  • Team Management: Allocate human capital effectively, promote professional development, develop and document workflows for standardized processes, and manage the investment accounting team.
  • Project-Based Initiatives: Improve the overall investment accounting workflow, lead the investments-related audit for both external and internal audits, and manage strategic reporting projects.

Qualifications for the Assistant Vice President, Investment Accounting:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 10-15 years in accounting or finance, with US GAAP and statutory insurance investment accounting; minimum 5 years in supervisory roles.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with various investment systems including custodial, loan processing, investment accounting, and portfolio management.
  • Skills: Advanced Excel skills and ability to communicate complex information effectively.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop teams, manage large-scale projects, and communicate with senior stakeholders.
  • Additional Requirements: Understanding of fixed income instruments and related financial principles; ability to work under pressure and deliver detailed results.
