Assistant Controller (Private Equity)

Compensation: $100,000 – $130,000 + bonus
Location: New York City

The Assistant Controller will oversee the financial administration of our client's investment firm, including the series investments, growth equity fund, and management company.

This position will report directly to the CFO/COO and be focused on coordinating and managing all aspects of fund administration, including reviewing and approving the work of third-party accounting and tax teams, preparing internal management reporting, and driving improvements in processes and reporting.

Responsibilities:
As the Assistant Controller, you would be responsible for the following:

  • Managing fund-level financial reporting, including overseeing internal and external reporting, preparing investor financial statements, and coordinating third-party reporting
  • Collaborating closely with outsourced fund accounting and tax teams to ensure accurate accounting for the series, fund, and management company
  • Reviewing and coordinating capital calls, distributions, and uncalled commitments, including allocating funds and providing investor notices
  • Preparing fund cash flow/liquidity assessments to assist with capital planning
  • Ensuring accuracy in management fee calculations, including offsetting, waiving, and rebating fees
  • Reviewing carried interest calculations and maintaining waterfall models
  • Supporting investor reporting, including preparing quarterly letters and fulfilling investor requests
  • Managing regulatory reporting for the investment firm, such as Form ADV filings
  • Overseeing preparation of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP for investment companies
  • Reviewing fund partnership agreements during initial set-up and ongoing operations, including fund governing documents, side letters, and agreements

Qualifications:
To be considered for the Assistant Controller role, you should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • Strong technical accounting and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required
  • Organized, self-starter who has strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an ability to balance multiple priorities and problem solve
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
