Payroll Manager

Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise the payroll team and offer support with the completion of payroll in harmony with defined processes.
  • Accountable for personnel management activities such as: providing consistent direction and comment on performance, cross training and cross coverage, yearly performance reviews, commendations for promotions and salary alterations, training and development, hiring and terminations verdicts, etc.
  • Preparation and maintenance of accurate records and reporting of payroll transactions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws, statutory reporting and filing requirements.
  • Provide customer and stakeholder support for issues that arise and develop a plan for problem resolution along with mitigation of issues on a go-forward basis.
  • Responsible for SOX controls within the payroll organization, and actively participate in audits (internal and external).
  • Support and process accurate and timely year-end activities for W-2s, T4s, etc.
  • Work with State and Local tax jurisdictions/agencies to ensure new setup and closure of applicable Income Tax Withholding, Unemployment Tax Withholding, and various Local Tax withholding accounts.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, leading to greater efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, IT, HRIS, Finance and Accounting on key projects and requests.
  • Support acquisition integration, system implementations and upgrades.
  • Support other regulatory activities as needed, including local, state, IRS, and workers compensation audits
  • Interprets company policies and government regulations affecting payroll.

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or associated field.
  • At least 10 years of multi-state payroll involvement, with no less than three years of managerial responsibilities.
  • Proven track record of leading a geographically scattered team.
  • Project management experience with the capacity to develop, plan and implement process improvements
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with leading payroll platform,
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other payroll-related designation preferred.
  • ADP Workforce Now experience ideal.
  • Multi-country (North America) experience a plus.
