Endoscopy Technician

Responsibilities

 

  • Brings the patient back to the admitting area. She will explain to the patient how changed for the procedure and what to do with their belongings.  He/she will be able to obtain v/s via automated monitor and temperature and import them into EMR for review by RN.
  • Obtain Patient signature on consent & witness after physician talked with patient in admitting area to review risks and benefits
  • Able to set up room, excluding medications, for any procedure.
  • Cleans and disinfects rooms between procedures
  • Able to assist patient to bathroom
  • Knows emergency protocol (within scope of his/her license or training)
  • Demonstrates and uses knowledge of safety measures.
  • Brushes and rinses scope after procedures
  • Leak tests scope after every procedure
  • Knows proper procedure for manually soaking scopes in high level disinfectant if needed for repairs only
  • Maintains stock levels of all supplies in the Decontamination Room, Procedure Rooms and the Recovery Rooms.
  • Checks stock levels of linen and bio-hazardous waste supplies and alerts the Nurse Manager of any need to adjust levels.
  • Maintains the MSDS Manual under the direction of the Charge Nurse.
  • Performs additional duties as directed (within scope of license or training).
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service classes on regularly scheduled days.
  • Complies with the various incident-reporting systems of the Center, e.g. Adverse Incident.

 

Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred; BCLS, if not BCLS willing to take training within the first six months.
  • At least one year of experience in a Medical setting with a working knowledge of Medical terminology; prior experience in an GI setting.
  • Pre-employment physical with additional testing as required meeting state and OSHA standards.
  • Previous experience preferred with cleaning, disinfecting, and processing endoscopes
  • Excellent knowledge of infection control principles.
  • Previous experience maintaining equipment and ordering supplies a plus.
