The EFDA Dental Assistant assists the dentist in many aspects of direct patient care and performs other clinical and clerical functions, some duties may vary by state. They would be responsible to set up and clean the dental unit and operatory for timely turnover and provide appropriate Oral Health information and education of the patient. A Dental Assistant reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor who reports to the Key Administrator who reports to the Regional Administrator who reports to Dental Director.
In addition to the traditional Dental Assistants’ duties, responsibilities and competencies, an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) is able to work independently (under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist) and multitask in a dental setting. This classification is distinguished from other classifications, in that employees assigned to it must hold an EFDA license and perform EFDA duties. This classification is NOT attained based on years of experience as a dental assistant. Clear mental ability is essential for the safety of our patients if an EFDA is to be working independently on patients.
